Just a little over a week until I leave for Toronto! I have been so busy. I am back at work at the Nk’mip Cultural Center full time, 10 hour days. This summer is hot in Osoyoos and the tourist are really enjoying the Okanogan weather. Thought I would catch everyone up on what I have been up to.
My older sister Shanowa graduated from Okanagan College with her Associates Arts Degree, I am so proud of her. One of my foster sisters also graduated from high school and joins the ranks of adulthood. My other foster sister following in my footsteps just received the title Osoyoos Princess, I have been so busy preparing for her pageant. It was the 65th anniversary of the Osoyoos Royalty program. All of us former Royalty were invited back to participate in the pageant. So on pageant night I represented both my former title as Osoyoos Princess 2010 and also as Miss Teen Southern British Columbia World 2013. It was such an honor being on stage with over thirty past Osoyoos Royalty alumia, our oldest from 1955. I also was able to introduce myself and my title in addition to thanking Osoyoos Royalty program.
The following day was Canada Day and the Osoyoos Cherry Fiesta. This is one of the busiest holidays in Osoyoos. Our small town grows from about 5000 to over 10,000 people annually attending the festival and fireworks. Osoyoos has the second largest display of fireworks second to Ottawa. The town of Osoyoos raises approximately 60,000 dollars by donation each year for a spectacular show. I was invited to participate in the parade, it was so much fun, however extremely hot, 42 degrees! I would like to thank Lucy Diaz for driving me in the parade in her beautiful mini cooper.
After the parade I had set up a tent at the Cherry Fiesta to help raise money for the pageant. I did face painting for the kids as well as sold balloons, tattoos, glow in the dark bracelets, Canadian Lei’s and ice cold water. I am so grateful to Your Dollar Store for their donations, Westminster Rentals for the Helium Tank for the Balloons and Oliver Rentals for donating the Tent. I would like to thank the Town of Osoyoos and the Cherry Fiesta Society for sponsoring my booth as well as Eisenhut Insurance for covering my insurance costs. It was so hot that day but I had a lot of fun.
In addition to all my busy activities, I have been preparing for the pageant. I live in a pretty small town so I have had to make a few shopping trips to Washington and Kelowna. I am getting so excited about leaving for Toronto. I am really looking forward to meeting all the other beautiful ladies.
